Sales process Wörlein successfully completed

Munich, 16 March 2016. Heiko Wörlein takes over all business divisions of Wörlein group – Restart of garden center as „Bellandris Wörlein Gartencenter“ in cooperation with strategic partner

2016_03_Woerlein_RECOVAt the end of a comprehensive investor process, the concept of Heiko Wörlein succeeded. The son of Ludwig Wörlein, current owner of the company, was able to present a compelling offer to the insolvency administrator and the creditors’ committee. All business divisions will be continued, and almost the entire workforce will be retained. Finally, Heiko Wörlein could assert against a Europe-wide leading garden center group, which remained in competition for acquiring the Wörlein garden center until last. Together with strategic partner Michael Kutter, owner and manager of SAGAFLOR Gartencenter, opening of “Bellandris Wörlein Gartencenter” is planned for spring 2016.

The Wörlein group is a large assortment and retail tree nursery for trees and bushes for landscaping and horticulture. With approx. 85 hectares under cultivation, Wörlein is one of the leading tree nurseries for autochthonous trees and bushes in premium quality in Southern Germany. To complete its offering, Wörlein also operates a retail and wholesale market as well as a connected garden center with approx. 9,000 square meters sales space at their Diessen site. Wörlein group with its long history has been founded back in 1924. Today, the company engages roughly 100 employees and is run by the family in the third and fourth generation.

On 01. November 2015, the district court of Augsburg opened insolvency proceedings over the two Wörlein group companies. Dr. Paul Abel and Dr. Robert Hänel from the law firm anchor Rechtsanwälte have been appointed as insolvency administrators. In parallel to stabilizing the group’s business operations, the insolvency administrator and the main creditor Sparkasse Landsberg-Diessen set up an international investor process. For this purpose, ACXIT Recovery Management had been mandated as exclusive M&A advisor.
